Credit Card Processing Terminals

Ever seen those credit card processing terminals on some of the stores. This kind of systems are known as Point of sale or point of service which are usually seen in retail shops or super markets and restaurants etc. In the first half of the 20th century these were mainly mechanical, but later electricity were used for it. Its functionality is of a wide range, as it can manage customer relations, accounting etc. so it was rather considered as complete business management software.

The early point of sale software’s were very limited in function and communications capability, but then the programmability of these software’s allowed the retailers to be more creative. This is the reason most retailers use these system today. Since it operate in a wide range of platforms, from windows to unix, so the compatibility is not a problem, Ethernet is the most preferred though.
