Google Search Numbers

Google has finally come good about the number of times your keywords are searched for. This makes google the ultimate keyword research tool and probably puts the nail in the coffin of plenty of paid keyword research tools.

All you need to do is goto the adwords keyword tool and enter your search terms and bingo, the monthly search numbers are shown. This can even be customized to your language and region! This is now surely the ultimate keyword research tool.

Website redesign - the results are in!

Its has been a month since I redesigned one of my sites with adsense in mind and the results are pleasing.

The website, poultrypages.com for april and may generated just under $90 a month. Since the redesign, the June payment has increased to just under $120 a month, almost a 25% increase!

After looking at the initial statistics I have to say I was a little worried. My page impressions are down on the old site, but I guess this can be put down to the higher rate of clicks on the adverts.

How to get hundreds of relevant backlinks.

This is the question that plagues webmasters out there. How do I get backlinks, that are relevant to my site and are not no-follow.

Well you may have started to notice that there are a number of no-follow search engines that make use of the Google custom search. Here is a couple…

http://www.backlinkspot.com/
http://www.commenthunt.com/

These two links allow you to search for your term and will hopefully take you straight to the blog post where you can comment and get a free backlink. Great I here you say and for a number of my readers, they will now be searching on these and adding comments. But there is more to come….

The next essential tool is SeoQuake. This handy little tool will tell you various details about the pages you are visiting or about to visit. For example page rank, alexa rank etc. all sorts of useful information about the quality of the page. These details are also listed in the search results. So if your niche is “Making Money” you can now search for that term and find out how good the page is before you click on it. Allowing you to quickly find quality results, related to your niche, to comment on.

Note: For some reason Google Custom Search goes to /cse for the first page, then /custom. SeoQuake only picks up the /custom so you may need to click next then previous to get the extra information.

If anyone knows of anymore no-follow custom search engines please post in the comments.

Earn easy money from your website.

For all webmasters this is great affiliate program that sells itself. The program is promoting poker, this can normally be difficult however this program is a little different.

Promoting VC Poker is really easy as your visitors do not need to made a deposit or even need their credit cards. Instead they will get up to $35 free to play at VC Poker.

You will also get 20% of their rake, which is quite generous considering they did not even make a deposit.

The importants of statistics.

This post come after I have spent an hour or so going through my Google analytics for one of my sites. The site in question I purchased back in January is eight years old, gets over 10,000 visitors a month and has hundreds of quality backlinks.

These backlinks are also very old. Having just gone through where my hits come from and which landing page they go to I discovered that, last month, over 500 visitors were linked to pages that no longer exists. These visitors got the standard 404 error page, which has a very high bounce rate, and I guess went to a rival site instead.

After a couple of hours of going through the analytics and creating redirects I have effectively gained several hundred visitors a month for doing very little work.

Digg - A Partial Success

My partial success with DiggToday I had my first success with Digg.

I managed to get a story into the “Hot in World News” section. This is the furthest I have ever had an article in Digg and was quite a surpise to me.

The article in question is about pagerank and has so far managed 36 diggs. I do find it a little strange that it was submitted to world news but still it has sent me a nice amount number of visitors.

Latest Wordpress and Design

You may have noticed a few changes to our site.

Firstly we have upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress.

Secondly we have a new design, which offers a number of new features. The first of which is a Top Commentators list which will give a free backlink to those who add the most comments to the site. This will essentially give those at the top of the list a free pr2 link back to their site.

Google Adsense - my recent success.

Perhaps this is too early to tell but it has been a week since I redesigned one of my sites with Adsense in mind.

The site previously had the smaller sky scraper and a small banner across the top of the page. I have since redesigned the site - http://www.poultrypages.com to take Adsense into account. The new site has larger ad blocks positioned better.

The old site gave an eCPM on the side of $1.36 and in the middle of $1.74.

The redesigned site, after a week, now gives a side eCPM of $1.80 and in the middle if $1.92.

Although not a huge difference, this is certainly noticeable and when you get a lot of visitors small changes in these numbers make a big difference.

Royalty Free Images for use on Websites

If you own a web site finding images for it can be very difficult. First we must start with a serious warning.

Stealing Images is theft. If you do this you run the risk of having your website shut down without warning by your host or criminal proceedings started against you.

So when we need to brighten up websites where is a good source of free images? Wikipedia provides the answer to this. Wikipedia articles are contributed to by you and me and so are the images. Most people who contribute to this are happy for their images to be used elsewhere. Search Wikipedia for the images you want, or search http://commons.wikimedia.org/ then view the copyright information to see if you can use the picture. The chances are you can, and there are almost three million to choose from. Allowing you to legally add images to your website free of charge.
